DualVox User Guide
DualVox is a mobile recording tool for talk-through creators. Show the scene. Speak. Done. You appear on camera, the scene fills the frame, and speaking over a real place, a photo, or a clip produces a vertical video.
1. What DualVox does
| Capability | Notes |
|---|---|
| Discover | Record from a recipe or import media: street, store visit, check-in, photo diary, clip commentary, how-to, Creative DIY, and more. |
| Talk-through | Rear main picture + front overlay (or split top/bottom) in one video; looks, effects, teleprompter, still photos, and more. |
| Talk over media | After importing video or photos you can change layout templates, scene backgrounds, and borders, then record. Optionally mix the source clip’s audio into the file. |
| Presenter | You on camera, or cartoon / character / animal avatars. Cartoons can blink, sway slightly, and lip-sync to microphone energy. |
| Picture | Rear / front looks and effects (vignette, sharpen, grain, and similar), which can stack. |
| Info watermark | Nine Cool Watermark looks: Classic check-in (free); Film body, Big time, Ticket stub, Masthead, Neon lightbox, Minimal coords, Camera EXIF, and Weather card (membership). Drag anywhere. A close control appears at the top-right when you touch a card. Place and weather come from location and cannot be edited. |
| Smart stabilization | Available on the left in dual-cam / single-cam scenes. Off by default, not remembered, turned off when you change scenes. A banner says “Smart stabilization on”. |
| Teleprompter | Up to 10 scripts on this device. Recording auto-shows only the current one. Can follow your speaking pace. The prompt is not burned into the video. |
| Composition grid / safe zone | Preview-only. The safe zone dims the top, right, and bottom areas usually covered by TikTok / Reels / Shorts UI. Turns off after recording. Not in the video. |
2. Before you start
2.1 Permissions
Grant what the system asks on first use, or check Settings → Permissions & system:
- Camera: dual / single camera, still photos
- Microphone: talk-through audio, cartoon lip-sync, teleprompter pace-follow
- Speech Recognition (iOS only for now): add captions on a finished clip. Audio is not uploaded. The system may download a language pack once
- Photos / storage: save videos and photos, import scene media
- Location: place on the info watermark, or weather for the Weather card; neither can be edited. Without permission, place and weather details are hidden
- Draw over other apps (Android only, “Record screen and talk-through together”): show the front camera over other apps
- Notifications (some systems): recording status
- Screen recording (iOS): pick the DualVox extension in the system Broadcast sheet
2.2 Device differences
- Both cameras at once: only some devices can run front and rear cameras together. You can still open dual-cam; it may fall back to rear-only and explain why. A live front-camera composite may be unavailable.
- iOS screen recording: resolution is set by the system.
- Android screen recording: the default is record the screen first, then talk over it — no overlay permission. Overlay is only for “Record screen and talk-through together”. Quality can be 720p / 1080p in Settings.
3. Two entries
Opening the App lands on the capture screen. Every launch starts on Talk-through. Switch at the bottom anytime:
- Discover: start from a recipe card. Instant scenes record immediately. Media scenes pick library video/photos first. Creative DIY can stitch clips or record the screen first.
- Talk-through: rear camera on the object or space, front camera on you — unboxings, store visits, street interviews. You can also take stills here.
4. Discover
- Tap Discover and browse recipe cards. The subtitle is “Show the scene. Speak. Done — a talk-through tool built for creators.”
- Open a card and read How to shoot. Most scenes also have script templates. Swipe left or right, then tap Use “xxx” script to apply one to the teleprompter (a checkmark appears if it is already applied). If the library is full, you can open script management.
- Instant scenes (street, store visit, travel check-in): apply a script if you want, then tap Start recording. On the left you can turn on fill light, torch, stabilization, info watermark, the grid, and the publish safe zone.
- Media scenes (photo diary, life cover, clip commentary, how-to, split compare): add the required videos or photos from the library, then edit and talk.
- Creative DIY: add several clips or images, or record the screen first, then reorder and talk over them.
| Scene | How it starts |
|---|---|
| Street clip | Single-cam vertical, talk while you walk. |
| Travel check-in | Single-cam instant record with date/place watermark on; place comes from location. |
| Store visit | Rear on the store, front on you; falls back to full-frame single-cam if dual-cam is unsupported. |
| Photo diary | Add several photos, swipe while you talk. |
| Life cover | Add one photo as the main picture, then appear on camera. |
| Clip commentary | Add one video; default is split top/bottom while you talk over it. |
| How-to | Add one how-to clip or screen recording, then talk in a small presenter window. |
| Split compare | Add one video or photo and talk about the difference in a split layout. |
| Creative DIY | Freeform clips, or screen-record first then talk. |
Edit and talk over media
- In the editor you can change layout templates, still or animated scene backgrounds, and borders, plus overlay / split. Free: basic templates, still backgrounds, and basic strokes. Animated backgrounds, extra templates, and premium borders are membership.
- Tap Next to talk over the media. The follow-record screen has Cool Watermark and the same screen fill light as Talk-through on the left, audio / mic / teleprompter on the right, and a switch to mix the clip’s system audio into the file (off by default). Speaker playback of the clip is muted so it does not leak into the mic; plug in headphones if you need to hear the source while you talk.
5. Talk-through
- Switch to Talk-through and allow camera and microphone.
- Before recording you can set layout (overlay / split), presenter position and size, window shape, looks and effects, and the teleprompter script.
- Optionally turn on the grid, publish safe zone, info watermark, smart stabilization, or fill light / torch.
- The bottom timer capsule sets countdown (off / 3s / 5s; this is remembered). Tap the shutter. Tap again during countdown to cancel.
- While recording you can drag the overlay, open presenter / picture settings, and flip the camera. Tap the shutter again to stop.
- When processing finishes, the file is saved to Photos.
On devices that cannot run both cameras: you can still open the screen and see a notice; you may only get the rear camera. Follow the on-screen explanation.
6. Picture, presenter, and layout
6.1 Picture panel (looks / effects)
- Looks: 19 filter styles. Free: the first 6 (Original, Vivid, Rich, Sun, Classic, B&W). Rear looks apply to Talk-through / single-cam scenes. The system screen-recording picture cannot take a look.
- Effects: Off, vignette, sharpen, grain, and more, which can stack with looks; intensity is adjustable. Free: Off + vignette / sharpen / grain. The rest are membership.
- When both cameras are available, you can set them separately.
6.2 Presenter
- Switch at the top between Live and Cartoon. Live is no longer in the horizontal avatar list.
- Live: window shape, border color (first swatch “None” turns the border off), border thickness, and presenter size. Shape and border apply only to overlay + live presenter. Split, cartoons, and the iOS system screen-recording overlay are exceptions. Circle, rounded, square, and rectangle (portrait 3:4, can sit flush to the edge) are free; cloud, heart, drop, flower, and more are membership.
- Cartoon: cartoons 1–4, women 1–4, men 1–4, and animals such as cat, dog, rabbit, bear, panda, fox, pig, penguin. Free: cartoons 1–4. The rest are membership. You can turn on lip-sync so the mouth opens with microphone level.
-
Layout:
- Overlay: full-screen main picture + a small window you can drag, reshape, and resize. Talk-through defaults to overlay.
- Split: top and bottom halves; drag the divider (snaps to 1:2 / 1:1 / 2:1); flip swaps the two.
- Include presenter (device-dependent): whether the front camera is composited. On unsupported devices the switch is disabled.
6.3 Suggested uses
- Lessons / app demos: Creative DIY screen recording or How-to + a small live window.
- Unboxing / store visit: Talk-through or Store visit — rear on the product, front on your face.
- Travel check-in: single-cam instant record + date/place watermark.
- Prefer not to show your face: cartoon or animal + lip-sync.
7. Watermark, stabilization, and light
7.1 Info watermark
- The left watermark icon opens a right-hand Cool Watermark drawer. The mark appears on the preview only after you pick a look. If it is already on, tapping only toggles the drawer. Close it with the small X on the card.
- Nine looks: Classic check-in (free), Film body, Big time, Ticket stub, Masthead, Neon lightbox, Minimal coords, Camera EXIF, and Weather. You can preview the paid looks; recording them needs membership. Ticket / masthead / neon / coords accept one optional custom line; it does not replace the place. Weather uses location to fetch the current temperature from Open-Meteo and cannot be edited.
- Drag a card anywhere. When you touch it, a small close control in the top-right becomes clearer; tap it to hide the card.
- Place is filled by system location and cannot be edited. Without location permission there is no place; other recording still works.
- Travel check-in turns Classic check-in on automatically.
7.2 Smart stabilization
- Available on the left in dual-cam and single-cam.
- A banner says “Smart stabilization on”. Preview may lag slightly on some devices because of the capture buffer. Turn it off anytime.
7.3 Fill light and torch
On the left in single-cam / dual-cam and on follow-record you can turn on screen fill light; dual-cam also has the rear torch. Fill light raises screen brightness and leaves a warm frame around the stage; it is restored when you leave.
8. Teleprompter
The teleprompter is for Talk-through, instant scenes, and the follow-record screen. Scripts stay on the device (up to 10). The scrolling layer is only for you and is not burned into the video.
8.1 Manage scripts
- Settings → Recording → Teleprompter opens the script library: add, rename, edit, or delete.
- Applying a scene template writes it into the library and makes it current. If a script already exists, you can start a new one or overwrite the current one.
8.2 Capture-screen panel
- Tap the teleprompter icon on the capture screen.
- Script tab: view the current script, switch scripts, type / paste / clear. “Show teleprompter” shows the prompt when you start; switch to “Turn off teleprompter” to skip it without deleting the script.
- Style tab: size, scroll speed, background opacity, and pace-follow: scroll speeds up or down with microphone level; it slows clearly when you are silent.
- Close the panel (X or tap outside) to save.
8.3 While recording
- If the current script has text and the control is “Show teleprompter”, starting a take shows the prompt automatically and starts scrolling.
- Tap the prompt to pause / resume; swipe up or down to scrub.
- Tap the small close button at the top left, or the teleprompter icon again, to hide the layer (progress is kept so you can continue from there).
9. While recording
| Control | Notes |
|---|---|
| Shutter | Start / stop. Tap again during countdown to cancel. Talk-through can also take a still. |
| Countdown | The bottom timer capsule switches off / 3s / 5s. |
| Drag overlay | In overlay layout, drag in preview and while recording. |
| Flip | Flip the camera in dual-cam / single-cam. In split, flip swaps the two halves. |
| Presenter / picture | You can still open panels while recording (some options depend on mode). |
| Watermark / stabilization / light | See the previous section. Stabilization turns off when you change scenes. |
| Teleprompter | Appears automatically when the current script has text. Close it with the top-left button. Also on follow-record. |
| Source audio | On follow-record, off by default. Speaker playback of the clip is muted; use headphones to hear it while you talk. |
| End screen recording | Use the system overlay or Broadcast controls on Android / iOS, then return to DualVox to review the file. |
10. Videos, photos, and the library
- Videos and photos save to the system library and appear in the in-app library (video and stills).
- The capture-screen library button opens recent items.
- Brand end card: about 1.5 seconds of DualVox card after you stop. Free accounts can pick a look in Settings → End card; members can turn it off or use their own video (up to the first 5 seconds).
- The info watermark (Cool Watermark) is separate from the brand end card: you turn the former on on the capture screen, and it is in the video.
- After export you can share from the system library / share sheet to short-video apps or elsewhere.
- Captions (iOS only for now): on the clip preview, tap Add captions to recognize speech on-device, drag the overlay, edit lines, and export a new burned-in video. Audio is not uploaded. The first time you use a language, the system may download a speech pack once; keep the network on. Settings can change recognition language and engine (system dictation or SpeechAnalyzer). Android is coming later.
11. Settings
Open Settings from the capture screen. Main groups:
11.1 Account and membership
- iOS: Sign in with Apple. After sign-in, tap the account row to copy your account ID.
- Android: in Simplified Chinese, sign in with a mainland China mobile number before membership. Switch the app language to Chinese first if you are on another language.
- Membership and the membership agreement.
11.2 Recording
- Quality: 720p / 1080p for everyone (dual-cam and Android screen recording; iOS screen recording is set by the system).
- Teleprompter: opens the script library to add, edit, or delete on-device scripts (up to 10). The capture-screen panel handles switching and style. Not in the video.
- Caption language / engine (iOS only): automatic by system language, or a specific installed language. Engine can be system dictation (older OS) or SpeechAnalyzer (stronger, newer OS).
- End card: DualVox card after you stop; pick a look. Always on for free accounts; members can turn it off or use their own video.
11.3 Permissions and system
Opens system settings for camera, microphone, photos, location, notifications, speech recognition, and similar. Android also has Overlay, only for “Record screen and talk-through together”.
11.4 Help, legal, and about
- Help: user guide, feedback, rate the App
- Legal: user agreement, privacy policy, personal information and third-party lists

12. Account and membership
- On iOS you sign in with Apple, or subscribe with your Apple ID first and sign in later — the subscription then attaches to that account.
- Mobile sign-in is Android only, in Simplified Chinese, and mainland China numbers only, with an SMS code. iOS does not offer phone sign-in.
- Free: Discover / Talk-through, teleprompter, 720p / 1080p, 6 basic looks, 3 effects, circle / rounded / square / rectangle windows, cartoons 1–4, basic templates and still backgrounds, and Classic check-in watermark. Videos include a DualVox end card (several looks).
- Membership: all looks and effects, all window shapes, all cartoon / character / animal avatars, Film body / Big time Cool Watermarks, animated backgrounds and extra templates / borders, the option to turn off the end card or use a custom video, and more. Follow the in-app membership screen.
- iOS payment is App Store auto-renew (yearly / monthly). On the membership screen you can Restore purchases and Manage subscription / cancel auto-renew. After switching devices, restore first.
- See the Membership Agreement for more terms.
13. FAQ
Why does every launch open Talk-through?
By design: a cold start always opens Talk-through and does not remember the last entry. Switch to Discover at the bottom anytime.
Where did Default capture mode / default presenter go?
They were removed from Settings. Presenter, layout, and looks reset each visit. Adjust them on the capture screen.
Can I subscribe without signing in?
On iOS, yes, with your Apple ID. Signing in afterwards with Apple helps sync across devices. Android needs sign-in in Simplified Chinese with a mainland China mobile number.
The preview is black while I screen-record this App?
Usually an iOS limit: the camera preview layer cannot be captured. Use Creative DIY screen recording to talk over other apps. For selfie + surroundings, use Talk-through or an instant scene.
No live overlay / dual-cam is greyed out?
When the device cannot run both cameras, we notify you and may hide or disable the live composite. Try a cartoon avatar, or a single-cam / media scene in Discover.
Stabilization makes the picture lag?
Smart stabilization needs a capture buffer, so preview can be a bit slow. Turn it off when you do not need walking stability.
Why can’t I type the watermark place?
Place comes from system location so it reflects where you actually shot. Turn off place or the whole info watermark; you can also tap the small close control on the card.
The teleprompter is not in the video?
That is by design: it is only for you to read while shooting.
I have a script but nothing appears when I record?
Make sure the current script has text and the control is “Show teleprompter”. Switching to “Turn off teleprompter”, or deleting the current script in Settings, hides the prompt. You can also tap the teleprompter icon after you start.
Pace-follow is not tracking my reading?
Pace-follow uses microphone level, not speech-to-text alignment. Check microphone permission, keep background noise down, and confirm pace-follow is on in the Style tab. Scroll slows when you are quiet or speak softly.
The video says DualVox?
The DualVox name appears in the end card after you stop. Free accounts can pick a look in Settings → End card; members can turn it off or use their own video. Info-watermark styles may still show DualVox as part of the stamp.
No presenter on Android co-record?
Overlay permission is only for “Record screen and talk-through together”. The default record-then-talk flow does not need it. Turn it on in Settings → Permissions & system, allow related background prompts, and on some systems exclude DualVox from battery optimization.
Audio is quiet or there is no lip-sync?
Check microphone permission and system mute. Cartoon lip-sync needs Lip-sync on in presenter settings, and your voice needs to be above the noise floor.
The follow-record file has no sound from the clip?
Source audio is off by default. Turn on Keep system audio on the follow-record screen. Speaker playback of the clip is muted so it does not leak into the mic; use headphones if you need to hear it.
